LOOT
Project Page
LOOT is designed to study the depth and breadth of fraud, corruption, and wanton and large-scale looting of public funds by officials, and the ways in which this might affect or impact the viability, fortunes and success of the Yoruba Nation.
Study Background
It is a known fact that practically all the officials in government both at national and state levels are nothing more than corrupt and fraudulent criminals looting the funds meant for the development of their areas of responsibility. A quick look at the situation shows that those who are looting the most are the same ones who are most staunchly opposed to the creation of a Yoruba Nation. They are scared and hate to see the source of their revenues blocked. Therefore, the more they benefit from this criminality, the stronger their opposition to anything that would change the status quo.
Nigeria has become unmanageable. The quest for self-determination is not because of the damage being done by the corrupt officials from other tribes in other geopolitical zones of present-day Nigeria. No; Corruption is metastatic across the board. As a matter of fact, officials from the southwestern area are perhaps the most audacious and most viciously corrupt in the present pseudo-federal republic of Nigeria. No sane person who is not viciously corrupt and who is not trying to protect their source of fraudulent gains would promote any form of restructuring as a solution to Nigeria’s problem.
They know the truth. A restructured system might in fact give more funds and autonomy to the states. That would in turn, only increase the source of funds to be looted by those in power who are promoting restructuring. It would mean nothing to the masses.
It is therefore important to note that the territories of the Yoruba Nation will not be devoid of criminals in government. In fact, one does not need to look outside southwestern Nigeria to see some of the most ruthless criminals past or presently in government and some aspiring for higher offices. Only blind and brain-challenged people will fail to see this. What the Yorubas have are leaders who put their political ambitions above the interest of the people – because such ambitions translate into money. Their ambition and power, not to serve, but to defraud. Therefore, it would be foolhardy for anyone to expect that Yoruba Nation will inherit saints among those who will be aspiring to lead it when the new nation is born.
Objectives
LOOT is aimed as an open analytical study and review of the situation. The process should include identifying the root causes of this situation, the key and principal actors past and present, and the roles they have played in bringing destruction on the social-economic space of the present southwestern Nigeria. It should provide a projection into the governance of the future Yoruba nation. The study should look at what lessons have been learnt and identify possible scenarios for the new nation in dealing with this societal cancer. It should look at what roles the current leaders should play in the future new nation and prescribe ways to ensure sanity in governance. It will make use of the Who-Is-Who Database of Yoruba leaders that is steadily being built to identify the personalities involved. The report should aim to provide answers to various questions on this issue. It should provide guidelines on accountability to ensure that past mistakes are not repeated in future.
